Columbia star James Rodriguez is nearing a transfer to Real Madrid at a price of about 75 million Euros, according to Marca, the Spanish newspaper geared around coverage of Real Madrid. The deal from Monaco, which comes out to around $101 million, could be announced as soon as Monday.
Rodriguez, the winner of the Golden Boot in the World Cup, was the breakout star of the tournament. He led all players with six goals and led Colombia to the quarterfinals, where it narrowly lost to host-country Brazil.
Rodriguez's move has been long in the making. He told Monaco he did not want to play this season -- even in preseason games -- for fear of injuring himself and putting his "dream move" at risk. Rodriguez had fetched a €45 million transfer fee last summer when moving from Porto to Monaco.
Rodriguez will join an already loaded lineup at Real Madrid, which features Germany's Toni Kroos, Portugal's Christiano Ronaldo, France's Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale.
